Pointe Noir, Republic of Congo
If you can volunteer for three months or more, don’t mind roughing it in the wild and speak French, HELP Congo can use your help. You don’t need any special skills, but HELP Congo especially needs mechanics, animal handlers, gardeners, handymen and anyone strongly motivated. Any experience in Africa is a plus.
HELP Congo’s Sanctuary, Conkouati, is not far from the border with Gabon. It has two main sites. One is the bivouac, a forest spot for monitoring and feeding chimpanzees. The other is the Triangle, a camp accessible only by boat where chimpanzees are reintroduced into a 21-kilometer refuge. Here, chimpanzees are studied for social behavior, feeding habits, interaction with other animals and other groups of chimpanzees.
