If you volunteer for Colobus Conservation, you’ll spend your time in the beach resort town of Diani, on the south coast of Kenya. You’ll carry out wildlife and forest conservation work while overlooking the white sand beaches and clear waters of the Indian Ocean. You’ll be able to dine at local restaurants; enjoy water sports like scuba diving, kite and wind boarding and kayaking, and explore Shimba Hills National Reserve. All with the security of good quality hospitals, pharmacies, shops, post offices and banks nearby.
Colobus Conservation accepts volunteers from many backgrounds and with a variety of skills. While seeking trained professionals like vets, primatologists and animal rehabilitators, Colobus also seeks people with backgrounds in teaching, photography, GIS, botany, editing and writing, graphic arts, sales and marketing, and carpentry and building.
Some 1,400 monkeys of six species live within the suburban town of Diani. Volunteers help with many tasks: feeding primates; cleaning cages; orphan care; community education programs; community outreach; monitoring released primates; data collection on primate behavior; human-primate conflict resolution; primate census; tree growth surveys, and cage enrichment design.
